A fourth (and final, for now) arbitrary rating of all the documentaries I've watched recently (no spoilers)

Alright folks, time for my final (for now) installment in my series of documentary reviews. I’m not sure if I’m getting bored of them, or I’ve just seen all of the super good ones that are currently available to watch, but whatever the case, I’ll be taking a break from my doc obsession and rewatching some of my old fav series I haven’t seen in a while or never finished.

Regardless, here are my abbreviated thoughts on 26 more documentaries I’ve watched in the last few months - enjoy!

Overall Score 8

I honestly don’t know what to say about this one. It was so strange, but so interesting at the same time. I’d say watch it, if weird, niche human topics interest you.

Overall Score 8

I love a good cult doc. If you’re really into the story of crazy Mormon stuff, watch it. It gets into Jeffs’ backstory and adds color to it all.

Overall Score 7

Mind blowing - he was one messed up guy. If you have a threshold for dark stuff, I’d sit this one out, but if you can hack it, or serial killers are interesting to you, worth a watch.

Overall Story 6

These episodes were all pretty mid and repetitive, but a good watch to have on in the background while you do other things.

Overall Score 8

This wasn’t as good as its sister - How to Become a Cult Leader - but I LOVE Peter D, so it’s worth watch just for his narration, if nothing else.

Overall Score 8

Similar to Quiet On Set, this one also made me sad as a millennial that grew up with them. Definitely worth a watch if pop culture is your thing.

Overall Score 10

This one was awesome. It was just the right mount of unbelievable and totally believable. It also happened close to home for me, which was nuts. I love ones that involve some kind of systematic issues and this really shines a light one a few of those.

Overall Score 10

I loved this one. The more you watch, the more insane it gets. Truly entertaining and fascinating! Definitely one for the true crime books!

Overall Score 10

I absolutely loved this. These guys are even more lovable than I imagined. I've always been a proud Nickelback fan, but now I have a dozen more reasons to say so. This was truly heartwarming and lovely to watch and so cool to see their journey from beginning to today - long live Nickelback.

Overall Score 8

I actually really enjoyed this one. I liked how up close and personal they were able to get with this family. This is one of those stories that the deeper you go, the more unbelievable it gets. I can't get enough of FLDS stories like this.

Overall Score 7

I learned a lot from this series and I think all Swifties and pop culture fans should give it a watch for some well-needed context on this whole saga.

Overall Score 8

You know, for a doc I didn't even want to watch, I actually really liked this one. The people in it are totally unrelatable and pathetic and I just can't believe the lengths some people will go to for prestige. I loved the blurb about how brazen white collar criminals are on the phone and I feel SO SORRY for that Stanford coach - he didn't deserve to have his life ruined over this. He's the real victim.

Overall Score 9

I mean, come on... This one was one of those docs where everyone got so swallowed up by one person's delusional BS that it became an unstoppable train. I can't even begin to explain how much I loathe Elizabeth - everything from her stupid turtlenecks to her crazy eyes. Amazing how things like this happen... but a very well-done and interesting doc to watch.

Overall Score 9

This one was really good and interesting. The voice they use for the bad guy creeps me out, but that just added to the overall vibe. You really feel for the people who got sucked into this whole story.

Overall Score 7

This one is also really, really messed up and dark. I’d avoid this one too, if you can’t handle it, but if you’re really into true crime, this one might be up your alley. It was like something out of a fucked up movie that seemed too insane to be true.

Overall Score 8

I really liked this one. It was interesting to hear the different perspectives and stories in this one. I found this made me really think.

Overall Score 7

Another stupid story of a stupid crypto douche, but I liked it. LOL

Overall Score 7

This one was annoying. It was hard to take anyone’s side or know who to believe or like or trust.

Overall Score 7

This one was good - another one to watch if you’re a true crime fan. I think hearing the tapes back really added a creepy extra layer. I hated that he was Scottish, though. :(

Overall Score 7

This was a fun watch. I love stories about rich, successful people who go off the deep end.

Overall Score 7

I don’t know how to feel about this one. It really left me perplexed. Not my favorite.

Overall Score 6

Leah Remini's show is better, that's all I need to say.

Overall Score 8

I liked this one; it was interesting, especially the way they walk you through so many different leaders' tactics in each episode. I also really enjoyed having Peter Dinklage as the narrator; he really added to the overall appeal.

Overall Score 4

Meh, this wasn't anything special and the narrator drove me crazy. It was very propaganda filled and not really worth watching. I even ended up skipping or partially skipping a few episodes.

Overall Score 9

As someone who was HOOKED on Bama Rush back when that whole thing took off, this was such a fun watch. It really makes me wish that I would have gone to a school that had sororities to join. For the longest time during the doc, the wig storyline was really odd, but the irony at the very end when she puts it back on... wow, powerful.

Overall Score 7

I mean, it was okay. I found the doc about the doctor committing this kind of fraud way more disturbing. This is another example of one that could have been cut down by eliminating some of the background and testimony from the facts because it was a little heavy on those and it didn't spend any time at all talking about what happened after the court hearing. This is annoying because the intro mentions ominously that this man is still out there, which leads us to think that there's going to be a current and disturbing update, that just doesn't come.

There you have it - hopefully, this gave you some inspiration if you’re looking for your next watch. Or maybe helped you avoid wasting 3 hours of your life on a snooze you were debating. If you have any recommendations of docs to add to my to-watch list for the future, please do leave them in the comments below.

Thanks for reading!
