A third arbitrary rating of all the documentaries I've watched recently (no spoilers)

Okay, I might have a problem…

I can’t stop watching documentaries - they’re fascinating and a great way to kill much of my seemingly endless free time.

And because I know I’m not alone, I’m sharing my brief thoughts on another 34 I’ve watched. Although, I think I might be low-key running out of the really juicy ones to watch because a good portion of these didn’t rate nearly as highly as my initial ones/ I might have to take that as a sign to take a pause and let the creators put out some new ones before I go on another binge.

But, regardless, here’s another sentence or two and an overall score of each of my recent watches. If you know of any real bangers that I’m missing, please hook a girl up in the comments.

Overall Score 5

This one was nothing to write home about. The story was super convoluted and hard to follow and leaves you with lots of unanswered questions. It's interesting, but not enough to make watching all four episodes worth it.

Overall Score 6

This one was complicated because I love the documentary style and the editing style, but I couldn't have cared less for most of the video. At a certain point, however, it all takes an insane turn and that's when things got so sad and so interesting. Be warned, this one is a major tear jerker.

Overall Score 5

The story was totally believable, but it was hard to get invested in, in my opinion. Not the best, not the worst, but a good one to have on the background of your day as it isn't especially heavy or hard to watch.

Overall Score 5

This one was one of the most believable of all of them I've seen, which is so, so sad considering the content. Overall, it wasn't especially compelling to watch, but it was well made and touches on a pretty important topic.

Overall Score 6

I have no strong feelings about this one what-so-ever. It wasn't bad, but there wasn't much meat to it. It's a good one to just have on in the background because you don’t have to pay a ton of attention to the storyline.

Overall Score 7

The clue's in the name, so you can obviously see this one coming, but it's still cool to watch everyone figure it all out piece by piece. But, come on, that last slide at the end is pretty unbelievable.

Overall Score 9

I really enjoyed this one. Any doc that has Anonymous in it is going to be interesting and this one was no exception! I was big into twitter back when this was all happening, but I didn't know much about it, so it's really cool to see how it all played out.

Overall Score 9

This one a rollercoaster of emotions. One minute you hate the man and the next you can't help but feel immense pity for him. I really recommend this one - fascinating and captivating - and I love a story that really makes you think.

Overall Score 6

This one felt a little watered down. Conceptually it was interesting, but the doc focused a lot of its time and attention of the less compelling aspects of the story. Like, frankly, I couldn't care less who and how what's-his-face got served?! And also, I found it the folks in this doc harder to understand or relate to than those I've seen in others.

Overall Score 8

Wow, just wow. This one really leaves you thinking. It was quite the roller coaster from start to finish. A truly compelling story that I highly recommend others watch.

Overall Score 9

Wow I learned a lot from this one. It dragged a little bit in the middle, but it was super thorough and in depth, and for someone my age who grew up in this era, it really filled in a lot of my knowledge gaps on the topic.

Overall Score 7

This one wasn’t bad, but wasn't the most captivating one I'd seen. I enjoyed the people in this one more than I often do - there were some BIG personalities! But the story was really sad in many ways and I think this kind of event is important to talk about more than we do.

Overall Score 10

I loved the format of this one - every episode covers the history and science of a different substance. This was such an interesting lens to look at drugs through - the business and economics of them all. I learned a ton, especially because we get to hear so much from first hand sources.

Overall Score 5

This one was truly 50/50. Some episodes I genuinely couldn't wait until they were over because they were so dull, but some were a little more worth the watch. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this one.

Overall Score 5

This one was another really middle-of-the-road one for me. Not surprising, not especially captivating, and most of this information I already knew. Loved the Lil Xan cameo, however.

Overall Score 8

As much as the Pharmacist annoyed me, the story was very compelling - and the fact that they got the doctor to speak on camera about it as well as all the details about Perdue Pharma… my jaw was on the floor. I do think they could have done a better job explaining the link between the initial event and the campaign that sprouted from it, but overall, a great combo of personal narrative, historical context, and true crime vibes.

Overall Score 8

This one was good and I really appreciate Robert's commentary and just overall vibe. I like the optimistic tone and more-politically neutral alignment this whole doc takes.

Overall Score 8

Hot take, but I love the DCC and I loved this series; I binged it all in one day. But that's coming from someone who has seen the entirety of Making the Team two or three different times since I was a kid.

Overall Score 6

This left the audience with more questions than answers, which always annoys me. That said, I liked it overall - the mix of facts and urban legend was well-done and organized. If you're from the NY area especially, or you like scary movies, this may be your vibe.

Overall Score 8

I really enjoyed this one. The way the bad person in the story flew totally under the radar is fascinating. The pacing of this documentary is really good and the topic is hella interesting - making this overall a really great watch.

Overall Score 8

This was a good one. I really appreciate the passion of the law enforcement in this one and I love the way they organized the doc. This one was super interesting and heart breaking from the very beginning and all throughout.

Overall Score 6

The information and stories were compelling and really worth sinking your teeth into, but I found the narrators of the story a bit annoying, which detracted somewhat from the overall experience. Not, at all, trying to take away anything from their experiences or stories, but their personalities just weren't my favorite.

Overall Score 7

Not bad - the topic is super important to discuss and I think they did a good job wrapping everything up succinctly at the end. Overall, well done and worth the watch.

Overall Score 5

This was a bit dry, but it did get more interesting by the last episode. That said, 'm not thrilled with the lack of closure we get on pretty much every element of this story.

Overall Score 7

This felt less like a conspiracy and more like pure fact - and that's so sad. I'm always learning new reasons to be ashamed of and disappointed in the bigwigs in my country, especially on the international and political stages.

Overall Score 7

This one was confusing - I'm not sure I totally understand it all, even though I am normally pretty able to keep up. I love the way it was framed as if the journalist in this doc was sort of playing the role of the original journalist from the story. Also, the NSA phone call moment near the end had me shook.

Overall Score 10

This was gripping. This was such an emotional roller coaster; I was fascinated and sucked in right from the start. I couldn't recommend this one more. Oh, and I love his lawyer - what an ICON - and the ending brought up some chilling facts and raised some pretty important questions.

Overall Score 7

This is another super important topic and this doc was super well-done. I wouldn't say this was a super ground-breaking exposé, but it was worth the watch nonetheless, especially if this topic is close to your heart.

Overall Score 6

This was interesting, but it didn't have a ton of substance overall. I think we could have cut out a bit of the fluff and shortened the whole doc and it would have been a bit more impactful, but I appreciate the info and found it somewhat entertaining nonetheless.

Overall Score 6

This one touches on a really important historical subject in the U.S.A. It was generally informative, but not the most enthralling one I've seen.

Overall Score 8

This one was lovely and hits me quite close to home as I have family in the area. It was so nice to see these heroic women really making a difference in their community

Overall Score 10

This doc was EVERYTHING. I loved the conflict, I loved the culture, and I loved the message. This entire documentary was ominous and eerie and captivating to watch how it unfolded.

Overall Score 7

This was a giggle. I like the artwork and many of the voice actors, but there wasn't anything too groundbreaking about the info provided. Definitely a good watch for anyone who knows very little about money and wants to learn the important basics.

Overall Score 6

Don't ask me my opinion on this one because my love for A&F runs too deep to give you anything that isn't hella biased. I liked learning about the historical stuff I didn't know, but overall, it wasn't anything to write home about.

I hope y’all are enjoying reading and maybe even watching along. I’m glad I can always share my thoughts here because I’m positive I’m boring everyone in my personal life to tears. 😆 Thanks for humoring me, friends.
