My Unpopular Opinions
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Everyone has the right to be wrong or right, to agree with the masses and to stand alone for what they believe.
One thing that I’m pretty well-known for is having A LOT of opinions, and not always the most popular ones.
I had already planned to write a post similar to this one a while back when my best friend Nicole reminded me of just HOW MANY unpopular opinions I have. Then, I saw one of my all-time favorite YouTubers Carrie Dayton create a couple of videos like this one - which you can watch here - and I realized how entertaining it could be and knew exactly how to structure mine.
I want to make it clear that by writing this post, I am not saying that people with different opinions are wrong in any way. And I’m writing this purely for entertainment value - we can all still be friends, no matter how much some of these might make you want to come for me. 🙃
So, here we go - here are some of my most un-popular opinions. Leave me a comment with your thoughts, below.
Proposals Make Me Uncomfortable
Starting off strong with this one. Like I said, don’t come for me here, but there is so much awkwardness that accompanies a proposal. People staring and gathering around, and what if the person being asked was to say no? Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for the couple, but once the whole ordeal is finished, everyone is just left staring and wondering when it’s socially acceptable to go about their business again. Plus, while I love a good drama, I am not the biggest fan of PDA or sentimental stuff in public.
I don’t often find enjoyment in eating
Some people LIVE to eat. We all know those people - the “foodies” who can’t get enough of trying new cuisines and going to different restaurants. The people who eat their feelings or the people who are always hungry and craving some kind of edible enjoyment. I’m so not one of them. Now, this isn’t to shame anyone in any kind of relationship with food, be it a healthy one, or an unhealthy one. There is nothing wrong with finding pleasure and happiness on a plate, because even I have my favorites that make me feel good to consume. But overall, eating and I aren’t the best of friends. It’s not that I don’t eat - trust me, my regular food babies would beg-to-differ. It’s just that I am not a person to experiment with food often, nor am I someone who gets excited about mealtime. The best way that I can describe it is that if there were a pill I could take that would contain all the necessary nutrients in it for me to be healthy, I’d rather take one and skip the whole process of eating all together.
Garlic, cilantro, avocados, bananas & coconut are disgusting 🙅🏼♀️
Similar to before, and probably related to it… I hate all of the aforementioned foods. There are plenty of foods - being the super picky eater that I am - that I won’t typically go near. But these 5 are pretty much my top 5 to avoid. Most people love them, but I can’t even stand how most of them smell. I’m just not a fan.
Vanilla, Coconut & Strawberry scents stink
I feel some sort of responsibility as a female to like the smells of coconut of vanilla, but I just can’t deal. Be it in a candle, air-freshener, soap, or perfume, or any place else, I think these three scents or any variation of them are the absolute worst. I even made a rule in my college dorm room that anything scented with them wasn’t allowed through the door. 😬 Want to keep me away from you? Use some coconut hand lotion and burn a vanilla candle and I’ll keep as far away from you as possible.
Frozen wasn't worth the hype
I’m always for a good feminist plot line, but I just don’t get the obsession with Frozen. I found the music annoying and the movie sub-par. Just saying.
Spinning amusement rides suck
Everyone but me seems to love going to carnivals and amusements parks and riding these spinning rides around and around. I just don’t see the appeal of feeling dizzy and sick to my stomach. Maybe someone can explain this one to me someday, but for now, I’ll stick to my rollercoasters or keep my feet firmly planted on the ground, thanks.
Ugly Babies & Pets exist
Yep, I went there. Sorry, but not every pet or baby in the world can be cute. Cute is a subjective word, sure. So, this opinion can differ from person to person. But I just don’t believe that every baby is deserving of the description cute. Some babies, at least to me, look more like aliens than they do people - just for the first few weeks, of course. And some pets, while completely lovable in their own right, are just not adorable. I mean, have you seen a Brussels Griffon? Some people might totally hate me for saying this, but I know I’m not the only one out there who is thinking it.
I put my milk in before my cereal
I actually got into this debate with someone on twitter the other day.
I honestly believe that filling your bowl with milk first and then adding the cereal little bit by little bit keeps each piece nice and crisp. I find soggy cereal to be revolting and this, to me, is the perfect solution. #judgeme
I don’t love weddings
Weddings, to me, are usually boring and commonly full of old-school and highly offensive traditions. Don’t believe me, you can Google it. But either way, I hate sitting through them. I’m so, so happy for the couple that’s getting to express their love for one another, but I’d rather just skip right ahead to the cake cutting, if I’m being honest. And don’t mistake me for one of the people who doesn’t believe in weddings, either. Because I can’t wait to get married to the love of my life. I just hope I can keep the ceremony to under 15 minutes - then everyone wins. 😜
Leave the solos to the professionals
Yeah, this one is pretty savage, but I’m a pretty savage girl. I really, really hate listening to people sing. Unless you’re good enough for a record deal - or you already have one - keep the singing to a minimum. I hate when people sing along to the radio or a movie when I’m around. It totally ruins the magic. And whoever thought up karaoke (in any form) should forced to listen to the worst and most tone-deaf singers in the world on repeat until their ears go numb. Bit harsh, I think not.
New England is not the holy land
I lived there for four years and my god do many New Englanders think that Boston and the rest of the area is end-all be-all of the country. Well, let me tell y’all - it isn’t. Don’t get me wrong, many of the cities and beach towns are truly lovely and Connecticut Casual is one of my favorite fashion styles, but New England is just another amazing place in this amazing country, and nothing more. Stop acting like the Patriots are the country’s team and the whole country runs on Dunkin. New England needs to take a step a back and remember that while it is where the country began, our nation’s capital is in DC and Boston doesn’t even make it into the top 20 list of America’s largest metropolises. Oh yeah, and Dunkin’s coffee is terrible. I just thought I’d throw that in there, too.
Slapstick humor and Sitcoms aren’t funny
Soz, friends, but you can show me nearly any show or movie with this kind of humor in it and I’ll probably eye-roll myself to sleep. I have always been a fan of more sophisticated humor and now as I’ve gotten older my appreciation for British humor has grown, too. Neither of which will you find in a Will Ferrell movie.
I’m not a Jennifer Aniston, Will Ferrell, Zoe DESCHANEL, Leonardo Dicaprio or Matthew mcconaughey fan
Ending on a pretty polarizing one, I’m sure. But these actors will genuinely put me off a movie. I’m just not their biggest fan - all for different reasons, including but not limited to their typical roles, personalities, and acting styles. I’m not saying any of them are terrible in their field, at all. But, they wouldn’t ever be my first, second, or third choices to watch, unfortunately.
There you have it. Some of my more prominent un-popular opinions. I just wanted to write a post about some of my honest feelings and I hope that it was taken in a humorous and entertaining way, by all. You’re welcome to disagree - in fact, I’m sure you do. But no matter what you side of these arguments you’re on, just know that opinions and conversations make the world a more colorful place and I welcome anyone to rebut my thoughts at anytime. Oh, and feel free to leave your un-popular opinions in the comments below - I’d love to read those, too.
